Shibusawa Eiichi Denki Shiryo (Materials Concerning the Life of Shibusawa Eiichi) was compiled in a total of 68 volumes and published from 1955 to 1971. It is a collection of primary sources including diaries and letters, reprints of documents, newspaper and journal articles, and other contemporary records and materials relating to the life and activities of Shibusawa Eiichi. The first 57 volumes comprise three parts: volumes 1-3 concentrate on Eiichi's formative years and his years in the service of the Tokugawa Family and the Meiji Government (1840-1873); volumes 4-29 concentrate on his years of leading the building of Japan's economy and public and social works (1873-1909); and volumes 30-57 concentrate on his years of contributions to social welfare, international understanding, and education (1909-1931). These volumes are arranged by topic in a chronological order, and each entry has a brief summary of the event, following by supporting documents. The table of contents includes the same summary of events. Volume 58 includes a chronological index sorted by various activities, an accumulated list of items in the previous volumes, and indexes. The last ten volumes are of diaries, letters, talks, lectures, calligraphy, photographs, etc.
